New Menu and New Favourites at Desi Deli

In July last year, I discovered a new favourite joint in Bandra. One where we would drop by on many occasions, for their gourmet hot dogs and a Lush Lamb burger that is absolutely divine. One which I have written about previously as well, and recommended. (Read that previous post here.) I love Desi Deli for taking global food out of the delicatessan and giving it a desi twist. Especially those gourmet hot dogs, that combine the most innovative sauces and toppings – brainchild of owner Lolita Sarkar.

Time Travel at the Future Theory Festival

I am not much of an EDM fan. I fairly like this genre, but then after a couple of hours of listening to it I begin to miss words. And lyrics. But this weekend at the Future Theory Festival my perception of alternative electronic music was drastically altered. The Future Theory festival held on the 27th and 28th of February, comprising an impressive line up in this genre, promised two days of mind blowing music, and kick ass parties. But what excited me the most was the location – Fort Jadhavgadh – a three hundred year old Maratha fort, now converted into a luxury hotel with sprawling lawns and ancient architecture.

My Future Theory Festival experience was like sitting in a time travel machine that oscillated between a cultural past and a modern future.

Blast From The Past

I’m going to paint a little picture for you here – a lone 300 year old fort perched high on a hill, with a birds eye view of the surrounding greenery and sprawling lawns. A gorgeous, rustic fort with it’s wood design and stone work yet intact, complete with a beautiful museum providing a glimpse into the Maratha way of life back then. Here we experienced a party like no other!

The Food Week That Was – What A Delivery!

Last week I was at my laziest best. I wanted nothing more than to lounge around in my pyjamas, watch MasterChef US re-runs (Marry me, Gordon Ramsay!) and eat take-away straight out of the carton in front of the telly. Helping me fulfill my last wish were two delivery joints who so graciously decided to send food over for some feedback. And I enjoyed the food from both the places so much, I decided to blog about them both. Here is my food week that was!

1. Hyderabad Xpress, Andheri

I’ve ordered from the Bandra branch of Hyderabad Xpress a couple of times anonymously, and I was saddened to hear that they shut shop. Now even though they’re based out of Andheri, they deliver bulk orders all over the city. My office staff will wax eloquent about their Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani, even though it renders you drowsy and incapable of work for the next hour. #FoodComa

My Authenticook Pathare Prabhu Experience – Maa Ke Haath Ka Swaad

The sun shining down my back, and a growling stomach courtesy the breakfast I’d skipped could not deter the excitement I had building up within me.

The reason – I was off to try an authentic, home cooked, Pathare Prabhu fish meal, a cuisine I knew very little about. The venue – the host’s Versova home, where a balcony overlooking Versova beach created the perfect setting for the sea creatures we were about to feast on. The host – the warm, home chef Geeta Dhairyawan who passionately and lovingly fed us that entire afternoon.

Take a Bao!

In 2015, we were introduced to the humble yet delicious Bao – a soft, pillowy bun that housed the most delicious meats and sauces within. The bao was featured on every ‘Food Trend of 2015’ article, and by 2016 has made it’s way onto the menu of most mid-level Asian restaurants in the city. But the restaurant that pioneered the trend, and remains my favourite place to bite into a bao is The Fatty Bao!

To celebrate Baos in all their glory, The Fatty Bao brings us the Bao Wow festival, where till the 14th of February you can feast on thirteen new varieties of baos, apart from those on the regular menu. That’s right, thirteen!
